BARRE

Covid Policy for class:

Windows will remain open, the air exchange unit will be on (this draws air out of the studio and draws in fresh air from the roof and cools or heats it). Class size is limited. Bring your own mats, blanket and cushion if required. Weights will be provided. Please wear warm layers as the weather turn as the windows will remain open.


What is it?

Upbeat & uplifting this class is designed to make you feel great inside and out! Based on an authentic Barre class (inspired by Lotte Berk) and fused with a functional movement approach, it’s a low impact, full body workout. Set to a playlist, it combines elements from Pilates, dance conditioning, and strengthens the body. It’s an intelligent workout that will focus your mind, mobilise your joints, lift your spirits and leave you feeling graceful & strong!

We incorporate small props, light/med hand weights & stretchy bands to add external load and resistance to work arms, thighs, seat and abdominals. Bodyweight is used, precise isometric movements, holds and pulses that target muscles and mobile the body. You’ll discover moving just an inch is all it takes to feel the shake and the burn!

Hands on adjustments are no longer given, but I will make sure you you are working in your best form so that you are getting the most out of each exercise. 

Who is it suitable for?

Beginners are always welcome. There’s a variation for all levels in class, from the first time barre goer to the most advanced student. This is a great class for mums and women. Modifications can be taken at any time and extra challenges will be given to ensure you’re working at your fullest potential.  

If you’re looking for an empowering workout that’s intelligently paced, mindfully constructed and with a great playlist, come and try a class! As with starting anything new your first class will likely feel challenging and we’ll encourage you to stick with it. Come with an open mind and willingness to try something new!

This class is aimed at women (18+) with a reasonable level of fitness. It is particularly beneficial for mums.

Develop the grace to stand taller and to become stronger in both body and mind. You’ll get a great class without putting excessive stress on your joints. This method will help you develop bone density, work muscles, improve balance and increase your mobility and strength.

More than ever before we need to find on outlet in our life to focus on our wellbeing, body and mind. Taking part in a mindful movement practice like Barre will have effects in life outside the studio such as increased mood, better concentration, relaxation and posture.

What do I wear?

General workout clothing that you are comfortable in (i.e yoga leggings and a top). Please wear grippy socks if you have them. Bring a bottle of water.

Classes are 55mins. Classes start and finish promptly.

Please don’t enter the studio more than 5 mins late as you need to join in the warm up to work safely in class.

If it’s your first class please arrive 10mins early so the instructor can chat to you and learn about your body. The teacher will ask you if you have any injuries/movement limitations. Please inform the teacher as special modifications will be given to you.

Barre is taught by Victoria Lowry, founder of Chapel House Studios. Victoria has taken numerous trainings in Pelvic Floor and Core health, functional movement, mobility, Yoga Detour training and Barre Instructor Certification. She is currently training as a Postnatal Correction Exercises Specialist . Victoria is also a Rambert Grades Contemporary Dance Teacher, Silver Swan Licensee and Royal Academy of Dance Mutually Recognised Teacher, ARAD.

Victoria trained at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance; upon graduation Victoria danced professionally and went on to tour internationally as a member of Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures Company. She performed globally in venues across the world from Australia to Moscow, with season in Paris, USA, and London to name a few. Credits also include work in Operas, Film and Theatre productions in the UK and Europe before returning to Devon where she established Chapel House Studios where she lives with her family and two children.
